25-Cents, 1870-1901 (Victoria)
Coins weigh 5.81 grams with a diameter of 23.62 mm and have a composition of .925 silver, .075 copper. During this period, five varieties of the portrait of the Queen was used, differing in minor changes of facial features. Two reverse varieties were used. The basic design was a crossed boughs of maple, tied at the bottom by a ribbon separated at the top by the crown of St. Edward. The following dates are weakly struck on the reverse (obverse): 1885, 1887, 1889.
